Road trip day 3 and 4
Door: Linet
13 Januari 2017 | Nieuw Zeeland, Slope Point
Because of the strong wind the waves are very high and it looks amazing how they blow over the rocks. It is very spectacular!
After Curio bay we go to Slope point. We find ourselves a place to camp for the night close to the water.
Friday morning. The wind is still blowing very strong. We go to Slope point, the most Southern point of the south island. We have to walk up to the highest point and get almost blown of the rock, but we are there. When we go back it is raining an the rain feels like hail in our faces. I’m glad that I’m wearing my glasses and not my lenses.
We go on the road again to Waipapa Point. On Waipapa point stands the oldest wooden lighthouse in New Zealand. They built it after a huge shipwreck somewhere around 1890. The weather is still not very good, wind rain, no fun at all. We don’t go to the beach, there are no seals today.
We want to reach Te Anau today and there are two routes to get there, a long one and the shortest one. We will decide in Invercargill which one we’ll take. We need some groceries and want to go to a new world in Invercargill, but it turns out that something is going on there, everybody is outside and the fire brigade is there with two vehicles. We’ll have to look for another supermarket.
We decide to take the normal road, because we don’t want to be very late at our destination. We go to the “wings” camping site. We have shark for diner (what a surprise) as we had for lunch. After diner we discuss what we will do tomorrow. Ad and I will go to Milford Sound and our cousins have a day off. We make reservations with one of the tour operators, we need to be ready at 8 AM. Early rise tomorrow.
