30 Januari 2017 | Nieuw Zeeland, Christchurch

Last week was mainly about family visits and relaxing.
On Monday the 30th of January we are going to the Botanic Gardens in Christchurch with my auntie. It is lovely weather, not too hot.
Before we get there we have a stop at a native plant nursery to have a look around. Some of the plants grow in other parts of the world as well, but there are plants we never see in our country. We make a second stop to buy some fruit and vegies.
We park the car and walk into the Gardens. The trees are very different from the ones we know in Europe. There are very huge trees, as in length and also in thickness. We see flowers that grow in our country as well but because of the different climate they are much bigger than we are used to. Some of the trees don’t look very healthy despite of the watering system that is on. Some of the sprinklers are a bit hidden and every now and then there is a bit of wind and we get wet because we are to close. The gardens have several areas, like the water part, the New Zealand garden, veggie, herbs and fruit garden around Curators house. On the Avon we see flat-bottomed boats with people. A nice dressed up lad, Edwardian style, is punting the boat with a long pole. It looks very nice.
We walk by the Peacock fountain near the museum. We have been to the museum and don’t enter it this time. The flowerbeds are beautiful, very colourful and well taken care of. We have lunch at the visitors centre, a cherry loaf which tastes very nice. After lunch we go to the greenhouse. This is an interesting part of the gardens as well. Orchids, flesh eating plants, a banana tree and enormous begonias, they are as big as my hand! The last part we visit is the rose garden. Very beautiful, a lot of colours and different types of roses. I like the smelling ones best to be honest. We have wandered around for hours and we are getting tired. We go back to the car and go home. On the way back we visit an uncle we haven’t seen yet. It is very nice meeting again.

Leuk dat je zelf op de foto staat met die boom. Daardoor kan ik goed zien hoe ongelooflijk groot die boom is. Indrukwekkend!
    Allemaal prachtige foto's overigens.
